"Packaging Oscar 2015" in France, in the mechanisation, secondary and end-of-line packaging category.

THE PROBLEM

How to design a new carton packer, streamlining size, costs and manufacturing times without compromising on its reliability? That was the challenge our teams took up for DS SMITH and its Packaging Systems division in Dijon, France. We carried out this project on a fixed-price basis, with ambitious results objectives and time scales.

ABMI'S SOLUTION

We delivered a turnkey solution. We handled the definition of technical concepts, 3D design studies, prototyping, industrial testing, compliance with standards and production of manufacturing plans. We then ensured that the product was a perfect fit for our client, paying particular attention to product lifecycle management (PLM).

METHODS IMPLEMENTED

ABMI set up an ad hoc organisation for the 18-month duration of the project. In addition to three planners and a designer, we provided a dedicated project manager. The whole team was based at the technical support structure at the ABMI Burgundy branch in Chalon-sur-SaƓne.

THE RESULTS

The machine was presented, as scheduled, at the Hispack International Packaging Exhibition in Barcelona in April 2015. In the same year, the machine won a "Packaging Oscar" in France for secondary and end-of-line mechanisation and packingin the mechanisation, secondary and end-of-line packaging category. It is currently enjoying huge commercial success.
