Make the city of the future a smart, ecological and pleasant space. This is the challenge we are addressing at the Efficacity state-funded public-private research institute which was created in 2013. Our goal? Redesign the station as a services hub to make public transport a more attractive option than private cars. Our cross-functional management within collaborative projects and our urban logistics expertise make us a perfect fit for this fantastic project.
ABMI designed the station as a space in its own right rather than simply something people pass through. Our multidisciplinary approach enabled us to apply our expertise in transport system design to building design, incorporating energy management. We also broke new ground by offering 3D immersion in the project. This urban digital model is used to test our urban innovations on users prior to starting work on site.
The project team was made up of a project manager, an urban planning architect dedicated to developing an urban energy efficiency solution, an engineer with a PhD in geotechnics, a town planner and a team of 3 planners specialising in building information modelling (BIM). We used various BIM and management software for working on the digital model.
Several "case studies" are currently in progress to test these tools, particularly for Bobigny-Pablo Picasso station, which has been fully digitised by ABMI. We also modelled a services hub for the station: childcare facilities, a parcel drop off and collection point, a caretaker's office, a hairdressing salon, a pharmacy and so on but also secure parking for bikes and electric vehicle access. Using these methods, we can depict what public transport will look like in the future: an efficient, pleasant and attractive way of getting around.
